Cabinet Styles That Actually Work in DFW Homes

Cabinet style is the single most visible decision in any DFW kitchen remodel. Here's what's working in DFW homes right now and what's already starting to feel dated.
White Shaker Still Wins
White shaker cabinets are still the most-requested style in DFW kitchens for one good reason: they age well. The shaker profile has been around for over a century and shows no signs of dating. White (or off-white) keeps the kitchen feeling open and works with any countertop and backsplash.
If you're nervous about timing, shaker is the safest bet.
Two-Tone Is Having a Moment
Two-tone cabinets, usually a darker island with lighter perimeter cabinets, are very popular right now. Done well, it adds depth. Done poorly, it looks busy. The key is keeping one of the two colors neutral.
Slab and Flat-Panel for Modern Homes
Slab-front cabinets work beautifully in modern DFW homes: clean, no visible profile, often in walnut or white oak veneer. They look terrible in traditional homes. Match the cabinet style to the architecture.
Avoid
Glazed cabinets. The glazed look from the 2000s is dated.
Cherry stain. Beautiful in the right home, but reads dated in most DFW remodels.
Heavy raised-panel doors. Same issue.
Frequently Asked Questions
Should I do painted or stained cabinets?
Painted shaker is the safest long-term choice. Stained cabinets in light natural wood (white oak, walnut) work for modern homes.
How long do quality cabinets last?
Plywood-box cabinets with quality hardware last 20+ years. Particle-board cabinets fail in 5–10.
Can I refinish my existing cabinets instead?
Yes, sprayed cabinet refinishing is a popular alternative if the boxes are sound.
