Quartz vs. Granite for DFW Kitchens: Which Wins?
By Dillon Hubbard, OnPoint Pros · April 7, 2026 · Updated July 9, 2026
Almost every DFW kitchen remodel comes down to the same countertop debate: quartz or granite. Here's the honest answer from a contractor who installs both every week.
Quartz Wins for Most DFW Homeowners
Quartz is an engineered product, crushed quartz mineral bound with resin. It's non-porous, stain-resistant, never needs sealing, comes in totally consistent patterns, and tolerates everyday DFW life better than any natural stone.
For 80% of the homeowners we work with, quartz is the right answer. It looks great, lasts decades, and doesn't require any special maintenance.
Granite Still Has a Place
Granite is a natural stone, so every slab is unique. If you love the geological look: the veining, the depth, the one-of-one feel, granite is hard to beat. It's also slightly more heat-resistant than quartz (you can set a hot pan directly on granite; with quartz, you should use a trivet).
Granite does need sealing every 1–2 years and can stain from oil and red wine if a spill sits.
The Marble Question
Some homeowners ask about marble. Honest answer: marble is gorgeous and stains immediately. Unless you're committed to the patina look, skip marble in a real working kitchen.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which is more expensive?
They're closer than people think. Premium quartz and premium granite live in the same neighborhood; the price varies more by pattern and brand than by material.
Can either be installed as a waterfall island?
Yes, both work for waterfall edges. Quartz's pattern consistency makes the seam easier to hide.
Which is better for resale?
Both are recognized as premium counters. Quartz has been the dominant trend in DFW kitchens for the last several years.
