How Long Does a DFW Remodel Actually Take?
By Dillon Hubbard, OnPoint Pros · April 7, 2026 · Updated July 9, 2026
Most DFW homeowners massively underestimate how long a remodel will take, usually because the contractor only quoted them "build days," not the full timeline. Here's what's actually happening.
The Full Timeline Has Five Phases
1. Estimate and quote. 1–2 weeks to get all your bids in and pick a contractor.
2. Material selection and ordering. 1–4 weeks. Cabinets are the long pole, semi-custom cabinets typically take 4–6 weeks from order to delivery.
3. Permits. 1–3 weeks depending on city. Frisco and Plano are usually faster than Dallas and McKinney.
4. Build phase. The number you usually see in a quote.
5. Walkthrough and punch list. 3–5 days after "done." Always plan for this.
Build Phase by Project Type
Guest bath refresh: 10 working days.
Master bath gut: 3–4 weeks.
Cosmetic kitchen refresh: 2–3 weeks.
Full kitchen remodel: 4–8 weeks.
Whole-home renovation: 3–6 months.
What Slows DFW Projects Down
Long-lead cabinets. Plan for 4–6 weeks minimum.
Permit waits. Plan for 1–3 weeks.
Material decisions made late. Picking tile two days before tile day causes delays. Pick early.
Change orders mid-build. Each one adds days. Lock in scope before demo.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the cabinet lead time matter so much?
Because demo can't start until cabinets are scheduled to arrive. We won't tear out a kitchen and leave you cooking in the laundry room for six weeks waiting on cabinets.
Can you guarantee a finish date?
We give you a written milestone-based timeline before you sign and we hit it for the vast majority of projects. The exceptions are usually long-lead materials or weather (for exterior work).
How much buffer should I plan for?
Add 10–15% to whatever the contractor quotes. It's the realistic real-world buffer for material delays and small surprises.
